Top Four Trends in Microbrews

by Dan Koester on December 13, 2012

There is a new trend in beer and they are what you’d call microbrews. These brews are not your ordinary domestics. They tend to be off of the beaten path and are really trendy with both the younger and older crowds.

They are usually sold in bars all over the United States and come with a twist. Microbrews got their names from the small independent breweries that produce them. They are made on a much smaller scale than popular brands such as Budweiser and Miller because they do not fall under a corporation. But lately they are becoming much more popular than the big names.

Here are some that offer something a little different:

#1: Dogfish Head Craft Brewery

These are some of the most memorable and strongest brews made in the United States. Dogfish makes their brews from such things as raisins and apricots. Some more of the more popular types are Raison D’Etre and Aprihop, not to mention Punkin ale. This is a family owned brewery and does rather well. They are located in the eastern part of the United States.

#2: Rogue Ales

This brewery located in Oregon is another top selling brew. Each hand-crafted ale is made hoppy and very distinctive. When and if you get to visit Rogue you can eat in their restaurant, drink in their bar and stay at their hotel all in one place. It’s worth the drive and is very different than what you’re used to.

#3: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

This is a small company located in Chico, California. They are best known for their American Pale Ale and make many others, but this one is the top seller for them. There is a restaurant located inside the brewery as they make all of their food with the beer itself.

#4: Anchor Brewing Company

This brewery can be found in San Francisco and is very popular among its consumers. Anchor Steam is their most popular seller and also known among locals as the California brew of choice.

These are just a few of the most popular microbrews on the American market today. Try one out and see why so many people make them their brews of choice.
